Cookie Policy

This site sets no cookies of its own, and loads no analytics that can identify you unless you ask it to. Google Analytics stays off until you opt in on the banner. One cookieless script, Ahrefs Web Analytics, does load on every page: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and reads nothing from it. It stores two things in your browser without asking: the places you have saved with the heart button, and your answer to the cookie banner. Neither leaves your device and neither is used to track you.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser, usually to remember something between page views: a preference, a session, or the fact that you clicked a particular link. Similar technologies (local storage, tracking pixels) do the same job by other means, and this policy covers those too.
What this site stores today
No cookies at all. Two items of browser local storage, both strictly necessary in the sense the ePrivacy rules use: they exist only to deliver something you asked for, they are readable by nothing but your own browser, and they are never sent to us or to anyone else.

Fonts are served from this domain, not from Google Fonts, so displaying a page reveals your IP address to nobody but our host. Hosting is Vercel, which keeps short-lived technical request logs. There is no advertising, no embedded video and no social widget anywhere on the site.
Analytics, only if you accept
We would like to know which guides people actually find useful. Doing that means Google Analytics, which sets its own cookies and is not necessary for you to read anything here, so it is off until you opt in on the banner. Decline, or simply ignore the banner, and no request is ever made to Google: the tag is not loaded, not merely told to stay quiet.

Booking partners
Some links here go to booking sites we earn a commission from: Tiqets, Klook, KKday and WeGoTrip today, possibly others later. Those links are marked, and the affiliate disclosure explains the arrangement in full.
Following one of those links takes you to the partner's own site, and the partner may then set its own cookies there to credit the booking to us. That happens on their domain under their policy, not ours, and only if you choose to click. Nothing is set on this site before or during that click, and we receive no cookie back from them.
Your choice, and changing it
- no non-essential cookie is set before you consent, and nothing is pre-ticked;
- Decline and Accept are the same size and take the same one click;
- you can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the foot of every page, which reopens the banner;
- the site is fully readable if you decline, and nothing is withheld or nagged for;
- the tables above list every cookie and stored item, what it is for, how long it lasts and who sets it.
Controlling cookies yourself
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies and local storage in its settings, independently of anything this site does. Clearing them will forget your saved places and your banner answer, so you will be asked again. Blocking them will not stop you reading this guide.
